The increasing interest in information systems (IS) has highlighted careful alignment between ISs and the business processes that they operate in. Companies demand better quality from their ISs and are willing to examine IS quality also after the implementation project. However, past research has tended to focus on technical aspects of IS quality, or on planning and implementation of ISs. Currently there are few studies that approach IS post-implementation quality from a business point of view.

Quality assurance (QA) is an important aspect of a software development project. QA activities aim to provide confidence that the quality requirements in a software develop-ment project are fulfilled. Then different QA activities are guided by using various metrics. Different metrics are collected from various tools used during the software development project. The collection process is difficult as the tools do not provide coherent information. The collected data varies as to medium and format when comparing different tools.

Software has become an integral part of our society. Software is produced more than ever and its quality has become an important factor to the success of software development organizations. Software testing includes methods and techniques for determining the quality of the software by both finding defects and to the extent it is possible by assuring that a computer program does what it is supposed to do.
